So I haven't really used my deviantart account in quite some time. And I stopped by today to take a look. I was shocked when I clicked on my "Zebra in Contrast" print to see that it was open to be downloaded by other users!! I'm flattered that 140 people liked it so much to do so, but I never intended that. I don't know if a setting got changed without my doing, or if I overlooked that option when I initially uploaded it. Whichever the case though, I'm very upset that my photo is apparently floating around out there in the web without my knowing about it. Why can dA have a notifying method like they do for comments and favs when someone downloads your image? I would have turned off the setting ages ago if I had known!
I use flickr.com a lot for myself and for teaching, so I'm tempted to take my work off of this site and use it solely for collections and favs, not posting my artwork. I'm happier with the safeguards that flickr provides so that people can't take your work.
Any thoughts? I just feel like I have too much going on in life to manage so many online accounts and on top of that having to worry about copyright issues with my work.
